Special Events

for the 2008 SPAA Baseball/Softball Season

Coaches Certification

Each team in SPAA is required to have someone that is a certified coach or manager.  SPAA provides a class for this.  Tom Williams, from Excel Sports & Physical Therapy, teaches this class for us and it is through the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS).  SPAA will pay for 1 person to either attend this class or renew your membership ($20.00).  Tom does a wonderful job with this and also gives you a lot of information on such things as physical abilities and safety, that is not included in the normal class.  This class is also offered on line if you are totally unable to attend either of  these classes in person.  The cost of the online class is $25.00 and SPAA will reimburse you $20.00 of that fee once you have completed the class and printed out your membership card.  Just bring us a copy of this to our office.  The online site is www.nays.org.  The classes will be held on March 5 and March 10 from 6:30 – 9:30 PM.

MLB Pitch, Hit and Run

SPAA will be participating in the MLB pitch, hit and run competition for the first time in 2008.  The dates for this program and more information on this will be given out at the manager’s meeting in February.  Participants may advance on through district and regional competition.

SPAA Rascal Night

June 8 will be the 2008 SPAA Rascal Night at TR Hughes Stadium.  The program is a little different this year.  SPAA has reserved 250 tickets for this night so far.  All 250 tickets will come with the following:  a reserved seat down either the 1st or 3rd base line; a group raffle ticket; a “bone”, which is good for $1.00 off at the Rascals Home Team Shop; and the give away for the evening, which is a miniature bat this year.  After the original 250 tickets are gone, there is no guarantee the bats will still be available.  The Rascals have 1000 bats to be given away on a first come first purchase basis.  More information on this will also be available at the manager’s meeting.  Teams may parade and if we sell all 250 tickets, the players

 SPAA Cardinal Night

We have not received a date from the St. Louis Cardinal’s as of yet for our 2008 SPAA night at Busch Stadium.  Information on this will also be available at the manager’s meeting.
